[ WEEK FIVE – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the beach comes back to life. Birds are back to cawing, the fish splash in the ocean, and insects buzz cheerfully from the jungle. Crabs skitter across the sand and seagulls fight over food (possibly yours). It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial. The Chief stands at the front of the longhouse and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the hut-like building behind him and very clearly state -- "Trial time, everyone. Get in here and figure out who did it." And then he'll turn to head in. The other Chief helpfully pipes up with a, "Make sure to bring a snack, and maybe some water. Hydration is key to catching murderers!" The longhouse is set up like a meeting hall, with long benches on each wall, facing each other. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. Aside from that, the room is empty. It’s only when everyone has taken a seat that the doors close and the Chief speaks. "Well, have at it. You've got till nine." And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck. I did. She came to me on Tuesday of this week to tell me about the four ways to end the game. She said she thought I was a neutral enough party to hold that information.

...you're the one she told before me then. [That makes sense suddenly.] I found out on Wednesday because she came to me with a note from Serph she needed me to translate.

Yeup! That's me!

[cants her head]

What did her note say?

"Abort." [He doesn't look too happy.] That was how I figured it out.

[. . . aha]

Yeah. It'd be pretty obvious from that point.

[zerotohiro]

[A nod.]

It's how I found out the four endings, too. What I'm getting from this is that there are a few people who knew the information but not the source. There's that, at least.

[spinatalltale]

[she nods]

So it seems.

Bingo! Not that I'm about to accuse you of killing her, but this is proof people knew outside of the people I told. You didn't tell Akira... did you let anyone else in on it?

I didn't tell Akira, but I did tell Lief. On Wednesday, after we got our letters. That's all, though.

[hypertoxic]

Alright. So far that means the people who knew, aside from me, were you, Lief, Bellamy, Lucina, and Hiro. Am I missing anyone?

[spinatalltale]

[she shakes her head]

No, I thinks that's everyone who has spoken up. But that list doesn't include everyone who might've known about it but kept quiet.

[hypertoxic]

I know, but it's the best we've got right now. Eliminating Bellamy and Lucina as possibilities, that just leaves you, Lief, and Hiro.

[ her eyebrows are raised.

what now, witchy girl? ]

Hey, it'd be pretty dumb of me to commit murder while partnered to the Wickie. I want her to stay alive, and if I go down, she goes with me.

.... that's not what I meant with my significant look, but okay.

Who! Did I misinterpret? What did you mean, then?

... I'm saying that if we can't vote for me, Bellamy, or Lucina, our choices are pretty limited, you know?
